Tenth Grade

Free, extra free time.

Learn on your own. In tenth grade, you will find yourself with an overwhelming amount of free time compared to ninth grade. To keep yourself motivated, you should manage your time wisely and learn on your own. When there’s free time, it doesn’t mean that you should waste it by doing nothing. Instead, you should consider to improve yourself and prepare yourself for college.

Challenge yourself. With the free time you have, you can try to self-study an AP course and take the AP exam in May. Yes, AP courses are challenging; nevertheless, you should try your best and utilize your best potential to face the challenge. Choose a subject that you are interested in, so that you are happy to learn about the concepts.

Prepare for your TOEFL/IELTS. Tenth grade is also a critical period for language test preparation. Although many recommend memorizing vocabulary, it would be the best if you employ those vocabulary words in your daily conversations. Actively participate in your American classes is also an effective strategy to use. Remember, you want to know the English language, instead of merely knowing the test.

Be serious about writing. In the future, you will encounter various situations where you need to write essays. In order to be comfortable on writing in English, intensive practices are needed. Thus, when there’s an English essay assignment, take it as an opportunity and take it seriously. The more you write and practice, the more you improve your writing skills.
